Background to the collection
The name of the collection is the gift from our god children who created the collective noun for Mark and I.
The history of the collection stems from a journey in China in 1994 where we met two influencial characters in our lives Peter Hamilton and Norma Ventisa.
On our return from Peking we travelled to Glasgow for a reunion and, being far to early, took shelter from the late October damp cold weather by losing ourselves in an art show.
The inspiration for the collection came about from this chance visit to the Royal Glasgow Institute of Art annual show. Here we discoveref the Scottish landscape of our dreams in Gordon Mitchell “sheep in armour”.
This chance sheltering from the elements was our introduction to the colour and emotions of the Scottish movement and the seed of our current group of Scottish pictures with a concentration towards art from the mid twentieth century to date.
The collection is personal to our taste and represents pictures by artists that are either Scottish art school trained or by artists living and working in the country.
We would also like to express our thanks for the support and help of Open Eye and Cyril Gerber both of which were influencial in developing our understanding of Scottish Art.
